Biography
Ridgeback were un-signed band from Galashiels in Scotland. They were Jamie Clark (V) Dunk McKill (G) Alec Munro (G) Nik Stewart (B) Joss Johnson (D). John Edwards (Manager) Stand in drummer on the last gig was Hammy from Edinburgh.
The band had played extensively across the UK supporting the likes of Pitchshifter, Napalm Death, Raging Speedhorn, My Ruin, Lostprophets, and Vacant Stare amongst other notables along the way. They were due to tour with Icelandic band Minus prior to spliting up.
Ridgeback began many years ago as Ninth Circle. Kerrang! acknowledged the first single, ‘Voices’ a self released limited edition CD in 1999, as being an accomplished debut! Terrorizer awarded it a mighty 7*.
Ridgeback initially almost completed work on their first full-length album when the original bass player and founding member, Curly, left in 2000. The band decided to drop most of the original material destined for it and start again. In November 2001 the band went back into Human Condition Records studios in Edinburgh, with a fresh batch of songs. Grant Macnamara ( Idlewild + Mogwai ) recorded the pre production session, which is very much a back to basics affair. The band were keen to experiment with a "back to basics live as it happens sound" in an effort to capture the raw live energy that the band have on stage. It is also a response to the dearth of USA bands that use slick expensive studios and Pro Tools. (Pre recorded guitar samples).
