From Nu-metal Preservation

Nu-Metal Preservation is a research and archival group devoted to the study, preservation, and documentation of the nu-metal movement and its related scenes, artists, recordings, performances, and culture.

Our Mission

How We Accomplish Our Mission:

1. Conduct research on bands, releases, tours, labels, and scenes, compiling information from as many reliable sources as possible, including verified release dates, accurate titles, track listings, lineup details, recording information, and historical context.

2. Make every effort to verify the accuracy and authenticity of the information we compile through cross-referencing sources, original materials, and firsthand documentation where available.

3. Attempt to document every known release, demo, live recording, promotional item, and related artifact within a given scope, labeling materials with accurate dates, titles, and source information when known.

4. Subject collected materials and data to consistency, accuracy, and quality checks before they are shared or referenced publicly.

5. Maintain online research databases and archives where information related to nu-metal is stored, providing accessible resources for researchers, historians, musicians, and fans interested in the genre’s history and cultural impact.

All activities of Nu-Metal Preservation are supported through voluntary contributions of time, knowledge, materials, and resources. No charges are ever made for access to or use of our research materials.

Some of our research takes the form of newsletters, historical notes, corrected credits, dates, discographies, session details, scene documentation, and contextual essays related to nu-metal and its evolution.

Distributions of recordings or related materials, when they occur, are intended to support research, preservation, and historical understanding. These distributions include contextual information designed to place the material within its proper historical and cultural framework, and to encourage further independent research, with findings shared back with the community. The goal is preservation, documentation, and education, not commercial exploitation.

Additionally, several internet databases are maintained for use by researchers and interested individuals. These databases may include discographies, band histories, scanned promotional materials, interviews, photographs, magazine excerpts, flyers, and other archival content intended to reduce the burden on serious researchers. Materials are compiled from many sources and contributed by many individuals, and full references are provided wherever possible.

Therefore, Nu-Metal Preservation believes it meets the criteria set forth in the following U.S. Government regulation:

U.S.C. Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 107
Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair Use

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether a use is fair, the following factors are considered:

1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes.
2. The nature of the copyrighted work.
3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole.
4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished does not itself bar a finding of fair use when all of the above factors are considered.

If you believe that Nu-Metal Preservation is violating a copyright that you hold, please contact us with specific details regarding the claim. Upon verification, any infringing material will be promptly removed.
