Biography

Cryogen was formed in November 1999 when Pako "Y" and AC Guillén, along with other members who are no longer part of the band, decided to form a joint project that would bring together all their varied musical influences derived from metal. A few months later, Cryodj joined the group with the main purpose of providing the band with the technological factor that from that moment until today will be an important part of the band's compositions.

They released a couple of demos, “Embryon” in 2001 and “-40ºC” a year later. In 2003 they remixed the songs from those two demos and released them under the name “Cryostasys”. That same year they also released another demo called “En la transparencia”. In May 2008 the band signed with the record label Nat Team Media and they were in charge of releasing the band’s debut in September of that same year, which would be titled “Embryon (tercer acto)”.

Recently Luis and Alex have joined the ranks of Cryogen as bassist and drummer respectively, with whom they have released the present CD, an album produced by Adrian Faure (ex Ktulu) and the band itself. “ Horizonte de sucesos” is a clear example of how to define Cryogen’s music, metal that draws from the sources of classic heavy metal but mixed with the most avant-garde metal sounds, with a careful and worked artwork made by Irene Serrano. The first single from the album is the powerful “Babylon”, a proclamation towards the fight with the established power and how the human being seeks freedom above all things. “ Tu otro yo” is a powerful and stupid song in the best line of an out-of-control Fear Factory that will force you to move your head non-stop.

In the calm “Nuevo ser” they mix hard rock and new-style metal with ease, like Sober. One of the strong points of Cryogen is the voice of Pako “Y” or rather the voices, since it is in the different register changes where a good part of the charm of the band resides, being able to start a song in a guttural way as in “Enlaces” to immediately continue in its most melodic state.

“ Gris” is one of those songs that gains strength as the song progresses, starting slowly to gain strength in a restrained way halfway through the song and ending in a totally overwhelming way. One of the main influences of the band is Ktulu and after listening to the powerful “El contacto” we can see that they have poured part of the essence of their countrymen into this song.
