Biography

"It could be said that there is a dark creativity that arises from trauma of the human mind and soul. This is not a state that is easy to comprehend or capture within the banality of words, but it is what lies at the core of the most expressive art, speaking to our most instinctive passions.

It is this sense of creative elation textured by darkness that Imprint ensnare and express within their soundscape.

To many of you, Imprint is a new band, but the core have been together since late 1995, using their musical unity as exorcism for negative emotions. Each members input into the band relates to their own personal, musical and mental, influences and experiences.

It is the diversity of this fusion that allows Imprints group dynamic to be such a textured one.

The sound of Imprint is most defiantly moving, creating a powerful groove that is equal parts melancholic emotion as it is passionate aggression. Imprint are not a band that constantly go straight for the jugular, instead using subtlety and suggestive dynamics as their weapons, keeping the listener on an emotional edge. Imprint never allow a mood to settle.

E.P. "Break The Sky" (released Dec 2000 and still available nation-wide through Casket Music CSK 005, it may also be ordered online from this website) is a slice of this sound in action. It shows the band in a flourishing state of development, moving form the energetic emotion of 'Hands Of The Broken' to the venomous angst of 'Milk' through to the desperate aggressing of 'Ebb Tide' in the blink of an eye- always keeping the listener guessing- their sound aided by the unique production style of ex-Understand member John Hannon (Hundred Reasons). Latest recording 'Untitled', though a more raw and low budget recording, showcases the next stage in the evolution of the Imprint soundscape, and how much the band have already progressed since the recording of "Break The Sky". With an even more enhanced sense of dynamics, melody and aggression, the songs of 'Untitled' are the bands strongest to date.

On the live front, Imprints ability to switch moods with dynamic unpredictability has got audiences hooked. This year alone has seen the band perform on stages from Brighton to Bournemouth, Norwich to Bristol, Eastbourne to Tunbridge Wells, Oxford to Wakefield, sharing stages alongside acts such as Stampin Ground, Snub, Miocene and Downward Thing. As well as up and coming bands such as Deadlife Portrait, Sikh, Landmine Spring, Eighth Victim and Matter.

Both "Break The Sky" and "Untitled" have received high praise from the press, fanzines and fans alike; with more new material already written and being well received live, particularly on the 'Nu Titans II' UK tour where they were well received across the country as main support to Vacant Stare, the band hope to return to the studio again soon to record their debut album; and with several more promising live shows already confirmed for 2001, the future is definitely looking bright for Imprint........"
